iPhone 4S comes to five new local carriers, new iPad goes to 12 new global markets today

It's a big day for Apple products. Today, the new iPad makes its appearance in South Korea and 11 other markets: Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, Panama, St. Maarten, Uruguay and Venezuela. On the South Korean Apple Store, it's now available starting at 620,000 won ($545 US) for the 16GB Wi-Fi version, slightly more than the $499 it costs in the US. Apple fans in Colombia, Estonia, India, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand will get the tablet on April 27th.

The iPhone 4 and 4S, meanwhile, arrive today on five local US carriers. Alaska Communications, GCI, nTelos Wireless, Appalachian Wireless and MTA (Matanuska Telephone Association) Solutions have all begun selling the phones for around $50 and $150 respectively with a two-year contract, $50 less than their larger counterparts. Alaska Communications will offer an even better deal: the 16GB iPhone 4S is free for subscribers who commit to a three-year agreement.
